We strive to practice a land stewardship ethic that integrates the growing, managing, and harvesting of trees with environmental conservation. Our practices protect soil, air, water quality, biological diversity, wildlife habitat, aquatic habitat, recreation, and aesthetics. Sustainable forestry practices allow us to actively manage and protect our clients’ timberlands in a way that maintains and enhances economic, community, and natural resource values.
1 Data is as of December 31, 2023. 100% of our forests were certified under either the Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI®) (3.2 million acres in the United States and Canada) or the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) (2.2 million acres in Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, and Chile). Most current data shown.
Across the 5.5 million acres of global timberland we manage, our employees apply site-specific silviculture and optimal timber practices to optimize land use. They're responsible for the planning and implementation of forest management activities on the majority of our domestic and New Zealand properties. Qualified third-party management companies or investor-owned property managers are used for property management activities in Chile and New Zealand.
Our timberlands are managed on a long-term sustainable basis while actively engaging in conservation transactions to protect sensitive lands. As part of these efforts, we manage all lands to meet sustainability standards set forth by credible standard-setting organizations.
A natural climate solution, the timberlands we manage provide valuable ecosystem services such as carbon sequestration and recreational opportunities.
We use the latest resource-planning solutions to determine optimal harvest levels and measure forest carbon sequestration with increasing accuracy.
